The Column Award is the only award given specifically for Mizzou’s CAFNR alumni and recognizes CAFNR alumni who have made significant professional contributions and whose achievements, affiliations and careers have honored the legacy of excellence in CAFNR. Each year, the honoree class includes one graduate from each of CAFNR’s six divisions, which reflect the six historic Ionian-style columns at the University of Missouri that originally supported Mizzou’s first campus building (Academic Hall) and serve as a testament to the school’s history. That year, Burns was the honoree of the Biochemistry Division of CAFNR.
As a member of Simmons Hanly Conroy’s complex litigation team, Burns has extensive legal experience handling prescription opioid litigation, consumer safety cases, multi-district mass tort actions and other complex business tort cases. She is a member of the firm’s Opioid Litigation Team, which works to help counties and local governments enforce their legal rights against pharmaceutical companies responsible for the opioid crisis. Over the past 14 years at the firm, Burns has settled billions of dollars on behalf of her clients.
Burns received her Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Mizzou and her JD (with honor) from the College of Law at the University of Tulsa.
