The Oklahoma Sooners got off to a hot start on the first drive of the game and didn’t let up. They scored 35 points in the first half for the second time this season, more points than in any other game in the last three weeks.
With the return of Dillon Gabriel from concussion protocol, the Oklahoma Sooners offense is on the rise, amassed more than 400 points in the first half and converted 7 of 9 third-downs. Gabriel is 21 of 29 for 304 yards and a touchdown and hitting big throws across the field.
The rushing attack was phenomenal in the first half. Eric Gray led with 10 carries for 124 yards and three touchdowns. Jovantae Barnes opened the scoring and has seven carries for 24 yards and two touchdowns.
After conceding 14 points in the first quarter, the Sooners’ defense strengthened and went on a run in which they forced three punts and the incredible CJ Coldon interception for four consecutive stops from the last two minutes of the first through about the fifth minute got mark of the second quarter.
Oklahoma got the ball back 1:36 to play in the first half and Brent Venables slowed that last drive, giving them little time to work with it as they tried to score in the end.
Oklahoma has 487 total yards of offense and rolls at 8.9 yards per game. If the defense can keep getting stops like they did, the Sooners have a good chance of winning this one and getting back above .500 in the season.
This half should allay any concerns
Think #Previously commit Jackson Arnold likes this version of the OU attack?

Wise words from Superman
Well, that’s what the defense should look like! πͺπΎπͺπΎπͺπΎ trust the process. @CoachVenables @OU_Football is going to be alright. There must be a lot of game left to complete the game. ππΎ

Freshman play really well
Gavin Freeman. Jovantae Barnes and two straight stops for #Previously‘ defence. It looks like confidence is returning a bit, but it’s early days.
β Brandon Drumm (@BrandonDrumm247) October 15, 2022
Dillon Gabriel makes the difference
That #Previously have 403 yards of offense in a half.
They had 195 in the entire game last week.
Dillon Gabriel could make a difference
β Parker Thune (@ParkerThune) October 15, 2022
They have their leader back
Other team with No. 8 below center
Offensive, defensive, everything #Previously
β Josh Callaway (@JoshMCallaway) October 15, 2022
Defense plays well
What a game the #Previously until now. The offense is on nitro and it’s so nice to see the DL succeed. This four-man front has had an effect.

Brayden Willis continues his fantastic season
Brayden Willis is just burying a few people on the sidelines for that #Previously.
β Josh McCuistion (@Josh_Scoop) October 15, 2022
Pretty, pretty good
How do we feel in Sooner Nation?
β Gabe Ikard (@GabeIkard) October 15, 2022
The trio was fantastic
Quite a difference between weeks for Theo Wease, he has a day off
Marvin Mims, Jalil Farooq and Wease make as good a receiving trio as they do in the country in my opinion #Previously
β Josh Callaway (@JoshMCallaway) October 15, 2022
Completely different defense
Three stops in a row for #Previously Defense. Yes, I’m counting because it’s gotten so bad in the last three weeks, but that’s definitely a positive change.
β Brandon Drumm (@BrandonDrumm247) October 15, 2022
Jovantae Barnes has a great game
Jovante Barnes is the future. THAT WAS FUN
β Sooners Barstool (@OUBarstool) October 15, 2022
Brayden Willis is that guy
Likewise. Consider this your weekly “Brayden Willis is the best football player on this list” tweet.
β Parker Thune (@ParkerThune) October 15, 2022
Someone has to put some pressure on
They haven’t quite caught up with Jason Bean yet, but Marcus Stripling and R Mason Thomas have turned up a little hell. Good sign.
β Parker Thune (@ParkerThune) October 15, 2022
everything is fine
Brayden Willis is such an insanely good football player. Even more so when he doesn’t have the ball in his hands. It’s fun to watch the guy
β Sooners Barstool (@OUBarstool) October 15, 2022
This team fights
I’m not particularly happy with how the half ended and I’m not making any predictions about how it will turn out, but I can say one thing: Reports of Oklahoma Football’s demise are grossly exaggerated.
β Road Warrior (@OURoadWarrior) October 15, 2022
It probably should have been a score to start with
Oklahoma was boned on that call. “The ruler stands” is the way of the coward.
β parker (@statsowar) October 15, 2022
UNITY is crushing it today
Why do you have so many players named Unity?
β Governor of Oklahoma just googled (@GovStittGoogles) October 15, 2022
Gabriel counts
Oklahoma is another program with Dillon Gabriel on the field
β JD PicKell (@jdpickell) October 15, 2022
And you can
Good news is that Oklahoma’s offense is back because the QB is back.
The bad news is that Kansas has shown that OU has to outperform the folks in that league to win games – just like the old days.
