“SPIRIT” convinces German universities

  • 290,000 students receive free sample cans in branded “campus bags”.

  • Future listing in canteens and cafeterias aims to provide direct access to the core target group of students

  • “SPIRIT” is already available in 4,000 food retailers in Germany and Austria and will soon also be available in Switzerland

Dusseldorf, October 5, 2022 – “SPIRIT” – the core brand of the German-Swiss functional food expert Biohacks – distributes 290,000 so-called “Campusbags” to students at over 120 universities in Germany at the start of the semester in close cooperation with CAMPUSdirect Deutschland GmbH. The bags with SPIRIT branding on the side and a sample can each are distributed directly to the students. The campaign is the beginning of a long-term cooperation with the student unions. As a next step, “SPIRIT” aims to be listed in canteens and cafeterias via the student unions. After successful listing, the campaign also includes marketing measures such as poster advertising, direct mail and guerrilla marketing. In addition, at the start of the semester, a campus landing page will go online at www.spiritgermany.com with attractive offers such as prize draws for students.

Through the campaign, “SPIRIT” reaches the ideal target group for the existing range of drinks: students consume a lot of energy drinks on average, but at the same time pay attention to a sustainable lifestyle. With its SPIRITs, Biohacks offers the ideal range for this: the basic ingredients of the drinks come from sustainable cultivation. SPIRITs are 100% organic and vegan and contain neither artificial ingredients nor taurine, which is known from other energy drinks and is viewed critically in larger quantities. It contains matcha and guarana as well as caffeine from organic coffee. “SPIRIT” is made by Voelkel (www.voelkeljuice.de), Germany’s largest natural juice producer. Voelkel has a unique philosophy focused on sustainability. When it comes to raw materials, the company relies on future-oriented, fair agriculture. The focus is on the use of seed-resistant varieties and the preservation of biodiversity and orchards. “SPIRIT” fully supports Voelkel’s pioneering role in matters of sustainability and the associated mission statement of the family company founded in 1936: “Responsibility for people and nature”.

The clear commitment to sustainability is also evident in product marketing, where “SPIRIT” is also breaking new, sustainable ground. For example, the company supports the “Partners in environmental protection” project, which the ARD media group initiated together with the climate protection company Climate Partner (www.climatepartner.com) and which aims to broadcast TV commercials in a climate-neutral manner. In addition, the greenhouse gas emissions generated during production are fully offset by climate protection projects such as the reforestation of forests nationally and internationally.

“SPIRIT” is already listed in around 4,000 stores in Germany and Austria

“SPIRIT” is aiming for a leading role in the dynamically growing functional food segment in the DACH region. The global market for functional foods is projected to grow by an average of 7% to 12% to more than USD 268 billion by 2027. To this end, the company is expanding strongly in the DACH region. The “SPIRIT” products are already available in around 3,000 branches of retail chains such as Tegut, Kaufland, Budni and Edeka as well as JET and Orlen petrol stations in Germany. In addition, the drinks will also be sold in 600 branches of the market leaders SPAR International and Billa in Austria from Q2 2022. The company is also in advanced talks in Switzerland to start sales with well-known partners by the end of 2022. This will accelerate Biohacks growth trajectory started in 2020. At a later date there is the option to expand the product range and also introduce biohacking services.
