A couple of strangers have won hearts on social media after rescuing an elderly woman from a burning car. On January 17, the incident occurred on the Long Island Expressway in New York, USA. The 56-year-old victim, later identified as Susan Denise, was driving her Jeep Liberty when the vehicle struck the median, rolled over midway and immediately burst into flames. Immediately after the fire broke out, several eyewitnesses stopped on the highway and helped the lady out of the damaged four-wheeler. One of the passersby filmed the heroic rescue operation and a clip of it was posted on Instagram NowThis news.

The video begins on the freeway, where up to six men can be seen holding hands to pull Denise out of the driver’s seat. Some of them tried to put out the fire by spouting water. They took the woman as far away from the Jeep Liberty as possible. They stopped the traffic and brought her safely to the opposite side of the street. The Good Samaritans also gave her first aid before a police helicopter arrived at the scene.

Denise was later admitted to Stony Brook University Hospital in critical condition, as reported by mirror. Until the problem was resolved, three of the four lanes on the west side of the freeway remained closed. The cause of the sudden mishap is still a mystery and an investigation into it is currently underway, local police said.

The caption for the viral clip explained: “Good Samaritans pull a woman from a burning car.
