TCL RayNeo presents augmented reality glasses at CES 2023

TCL RayNeo, an augmented reality startup founded by TCL Electronics, announced at CES 2023 the launch of the RayNeo X2 AR smart glasses, which leverage breakthrough binocular full-color micro-LED fiber optic displays and a range of new interactive features.

Rising to the industry challenge of making AR glasses look like traditional glasses without compromising tech specs, the TCL RayNeo X2 maintains a subtle and lightweight body for everyday wear while incorporating powerful all-in-one offers assistant functions, from intelligent navigation and automatic translation to photography and music making.

The smart glasses include significant display upgrades, including a high contrast ratio (CR) of up to 100,000:1 and outstanding image brightness of up to 1,000 nits, creating enhanced visual effects.

Powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 platform, TCL RayNeo X2 uses intelligent GPS navigation system and AI translation. The integrated hands-free camera allows the wearer to create still images, videos and time-lapses from a distinctive first-person perspective. Smart features like image stabilization reduce shake and movement, and Auto Night mode lets users capture vivid moments even in the dark, helping them get the perfect shot every time.

TCL RayNeo X2 will be available to the developer community in select regions by the end of Q1 2023, followed by a commercial launch.

TCL RayNeo will launch a developer project in Q1 2023, inviting innovative developers to join and create creative, user-driven features for the AR glasses. “With the launch of TCL RayNeo X2, we aim to build a vibrant, immersive AR ecosystem to provide rich content and compelling services to our users. This includes a number of original AR games developed by our team,” noted Howie Li, CEO of TCL RayNeo.

Li also shared a pyramid model of AR glasses products. The lowest level are glasses without many intelligent functions, such as a display. The second layer can be divided into “birdbath” technology and fiber optic technology. The third layer is defined by adding AR capabilities. Birdbath and AR products excel in good rendering effects, but are not so good at integrating virtual world and reality. Optical Waveguide plus AR is based on the real world and realizes a balanced display and perspective. At the top of the pyramid are AR glasses.
