Tesla has decided to reopen direct Powerwall orders after previously only making the popular home battery pack available with a solar power system.
Home battery packs have grown in popularity in recent years. People have been looking for more energy security to counteract power outages and make better use of renewable energy such as rooftop solar panels. Home battery packs offer that.
Tesla Powerwall is by far the most popular home battery system and its popularity has resulted in a significant backlog of orders.
In 2021, Tesla has even decided to only allow Powerwall orders when combined with a rooftop solar or solar roof order.
Two years later, Tesla has now changed its strategy and reopened orders for Powerwall on its own:
Tesla is now announcing new pricing for a non-solar Powerwall installation—starting at $9,200 for a single Powerwall before taxes and incentives.
That’s direct from Tesla, where the company can do installations.
Of course, Tesla Powerwalls have always been available separately through third-party installers, which has become a key segment for the company.
Electrek’s take
This could indicate that Tesla finally has better powerwall availability. Last year, the automaker confirmed it had ramped up production to about 6,500 Powerwalls per week.
I’ve noticed an increased number of advertisements from Powerwall certified installers which would indicate they have inventory.
Now that Tesla is opening up direct orders, it looks like powerwalls will be easier to come by…if you can afford the price.
