Mozo, TechRadar’s sister site specializing in money matters, featured Australia’s favorite companies across a variety of industries – including NBN plans and cellular plans – at the Mozo People’s Choice Awards 2023.
Separate from Mozo’s own Expert Choice Awards (MECA), the Mozo People’s Choice Awards are voted for by the Australian public to provide a clear indication of which companies offer the best overall value for real, paying customers.
And in 2023, the smaller companies seem to be the big winners: four mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) take all the awards in the Cellular Plans category and only three telcos walk away with an award in the Broadband category. Australians seem to be promoting David rather than Goliath.
Australians appreciate Australian support
In the Broadband category, around 44 providers were rated by customers and Australian company Aussie Broadband was the clear winner, taking the crown for connection quality, excellent service and support, ‘Most Recommended’ and ‘Outstanding Customer Satisfaction’. Aussie Broadband again won in all four categories in 2022, meaning the NBN provider continues to offer Australian consumers the best overall experience.
In our own Aussie Broadband review, we looked at real-world customer reviews and found that the device consistently received a practical five stars out of five, with customers claiming that the technical support provided by ABB was top-notch.
Exetel – one of our favorite providers here at Tom’s Guide – and iiNet also won an award for outstanding customer satisfaction.
Over 2,500 Australians submitted their opinions in the broadband category and only those providers who received at least 30 responses went on to win an award. The Mozo team of experts then ranked the vendors based on an average score before deciding on the winning companies.
Big things come in small packages
In the mobile plan category, four MVNOs – those using the network of larger companies Telstra, Optus and Vodafone – won the big win. The four winners were Kogan Mobile, Amaysim, Aldi Mobile and Woolworths, each taking home multiple awards in five categories. They are:
Clearest billing: Kogan Mobile | Most recommended: Aldi Mobile | Woolworth’s | AmaysimNetwork Reliability: Aldi MobileOutstanding Customer Satisfaction: Aldi Mobile | Woolworth’s | AmaysimValue for money: Aldi Mobile | Kogan Mobile | Woolworth’s | amaysim
What makes these winners so impressive is that they edged out competition from a host of other wireless carriers. Peter Marshall, judge for the Mozo People’s Choice Awards, said: “Nearly 3,300 Australians gave their opinions and experiences about more than 42 mobile operators at these awards.”
The 2023 Mozo People’s Choice Awards cover every possible category, including banking, energy, various insurance options and “buy now pay later”. The overall goal of the awards is not just to identify which companies the Australian public offers value for money, but, as Mozo Director AJ Dunancson says, “to help consumers make more informed purchasing decisions.”
