It’s been years since Apple launched that gimmicky “there’s an app for that” campaign, but it’s admittedly spot on when it comes to catchy ad slogans. Apps really have become ubiquitous: you have apps to help you exercise efficiently and apps to save money at your favorite coffee shop, and with spring cleaning around the corner you might as well have one (or more) to help you to tidy up your home .
The app can’t do the work for you, but a good one can motivate or guide you, so the one that best suits your needs depends on how you prefer to tackle unpleasant or tedious tasks.
If you like to-do lists: flawless
Spotless helps you break down cleaning tasks by room. You can create a separate to-do list for each room in your home, and then set reminders for how often you want to complete the tasks in each room. It tracks when your last cleaning for each location – countertops, tubs, whatever you want – and reminds you when another refresher is due. The interface is simple and clean, not overwhelming and easy to use.

If you need reminders: clean my house
To-do lists are great (and plentiful in the app stores), but not that useful if you’re someone who just wants to avoid opening your app to look at it. Clean My House is designed to remind you every day what the cleaning schedule for the day should be – “Stop worrying about what to do every morning.” You have control over how often each notification appears, and when you’ve completed it, just tap the reminder to open the app and mark it.

If you need to delegate: OurHome
Cleaning isn’t a one-person job, but when you’re using an app that only you can see, it will feel like it. OurHome makes cleaning a game and involves the whole family. Not only do you assign tasks to each person within the app, but you can also set rewards for them so you know they’re sticking with it. Also, there are other features here that other cleaning apps don’t have. For example, you can create a shared shopping list that allows everyone in the household to add what they need from the next Target run.

If you like collecting points: DONE
What is it about a simple points earning system that keeps us coming back to app games? If you’re the kind of person who gets motivated by Snap or Duolingo streaks, DONE might actually encourage you to declutter your home. Set a goal and watch a nifty little bar fill with color every time you complete your favorite task, whether it’s cleaning or lifestyle. You can train yourself to get those sweet, sweet dots by scrubbing your tub or by drinking enough water each day.

Bonus: TikTok
When you need cleaning inspiration, checklists might not be the way to go. Depending on what really motivates you, you might be better off using TikTok. No really: the app is full of Cleantok influencers sharing their best clean-up tips, as well as real reviews, product recommendations, and hacks. Seeing others use tips and tricks to combat their mess and dirt is oddly inspiring and puts you in a real cleaning mood.
