The Galaxy Note 10 Lite joins Samsung’s December update party

Samsung updated the Galaxy Note 10 Lite to Android 13 last month. The affordable Galaxy flagship with S Pen has received the November security patch with the major Android update. It is now receiving the latest December SMR (Security Maintenance Release).

The December security patch for the Galaxy Note 10 Lite is currently being rolled out in Europe. More specifically, Samsung has started the rollout in France. Users will receive the update with firmware version N770FXXS8HVL1. The Korean giant should expand the rollout to other global markets in the coming weeks. Note that the phone has not officially launched in the US.

This update does not bring any new features or user-side changes to the Galaxy Note 10 Lite. The device picked up Android 13 less than a month ago, so that’s understandable. But there are many vulnerability fixes here. Samsung’s latest security release fixes up to 80 vulnerabilities in its Android-powered Galaxy smartphones and tablets.

The vast majority of these (67 to be exact) are vulnerabilities in the Android operating system and other partner components, including components from Qualcomm and MediaTek. These errors affect the entire Android ecosystem and are not limited to Samsung products. Of course, devices using a compromised component are only vulnerable to a specific vulnerability. But Google’s latest ASB (Android Security Bulletin) mentions at least two critical Android operating system bugs that could lead to remote code execution.

The December SMR for Galaxy devices also includes three additional critical and 60 high severity ASB patches. In addition, Samsung has also patched 13 Galaxy-specific vulnerabilities. These issues do not affect other brands of Android products. The Koren company mentions some serious bugs in the Exynos baseband, as well as issues with several other system apps and components, including the Telekom application, contacts, phone, RCS call, and Samsung settings.

The Galaxy Note 10 Lite gets the December security update

If you’re using the Galaxy Note 10 Lite, these vulnerability fixes should be available to you soon. It could be the penultimate monthly security clearance for the phone. Launched in January 2020, the device will be ready for three years next month. Samsung will likely downgrade it to quarterly security updates after that. However, the updates will come for at least another year. Except you get fewer releases than you currently do. However, don’t expect to get the Android 14 update next year. The next Android version will not come to your phone. The Galaxy Note 10 Lite debuted with Android 10 and will end its life with Android 13.
