The Horizon Forbidden West DLC seems to indicate that Lance Reddick’s character will lead the next game

This article covers Horizon Forbidden West plot details and Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores.

The conclusion of the Horizon Forbidden West expansion suggests that Lance Reddick’s character should take center stage again in the third Horizon game.

In Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores, out this week, Aloy travels to the ruins of Los Angeles to seek information about the ancient ancestral race that Aloy fought in the main game.

However, once you’ve completed the brief main quest and returned to your base, the expansion appears to set up the third entry in the game, focusing on the Sylens, the character played by the late Lance Reddick.

In a conversation during the “Epilogue” mission, Sylens mentions that he found a lead in the information recovered from the Burning Shores that could lead to a weapon powerful enough to defeat Nemesis, a corrupted AI , created by Far Zenith, the main antagonist, for the series.

Sylens says he needs to track down this technology and tells Aloy he won’t be able to do it alone, leading Aloy to believe that this was the reason Sylens stayed at the end of Forbidden West.

Although no third game in the series was announced, VGC reported in 2020 that Guerrilla had planned for the series to become a trilogy of games, which certainly suggests the end of Forbidden West and now Burning Shores.

However, it’s now unclear how the team will adjust the story now that Reddick has passed away. Reddick played Sylens in both Horizon games, and while he only makes a brief appearance as part of the expansion, his role in a potential third game seems significant.

After his death, Destiny developers Bungie confirmed that Reddick had already recorded dialogue for future content in which he plays Commander Zavala.

Horizon developer Guerrilla released the following statement after Reddick’s death: “Thank you Lance Reddick for everything you contributed to the character of Sylens, for sharing our infinite talent and wisdom with us, for your generous warmth and inimitable presence and for your profound impact not only as part of our cast but also on our community.

“We are very honored to work with you. We will miss you. We express our deepest condolences to his family.”
