“The Rock Gave His Pound Of Flesh And Walked Away”: Internet Brands James Gunn’s DCU As A Devious Franchise That Recognizes No Talent

The Rock has been in the Hollywood industry for a while. His cinematic range extends from The Scorpion King to Jumanji: The Next Level. He’s even starred in a superhero movie. With Black Adam, Dwayne Johnson was able to establish himself as part of the DC Universe. Although things didn’t go well for him, the process had been personal and loving to him from start to finish.

Unfortunately, his fate with the franchise has not been kind. Not only did his film do overwhelmingly poorly, but he won’t be reprising his role as the title character for a very long time. James Gunn’s takeover of the DCU hasn’t treated many people well. While his goal remains to restart the franchise, the cost could prove too high.

The Rock was an iconic departure from the DCU

While Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson may be instilling a certain amount of hatred with the breaking flight news, there’s no denying that he left DCU at the right time. He jumped at an opportunity that took a decade to materialize and although the project didn’t win that much, it became his passion project.

The actor created something he loved. Fans may say many things, but it wasn’t without the effort the wrestler-turned-actor put into the making of Black Adam. James Gunn’s engagement changed the tide for a large portion of the cast. Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Ben Affleck and Dwayne Johnson; now maybe even Zachary Levi; all had to step away from their iconic roles. They were no longer part of the DCU overnight and their films had no secure future. Not only did this heavily defame Gunn, but it also blamed him for the fact that the franchise’s fate didn’t look too good.

Fans defend the rock after James Gunn turns his back on it James Gunn

Fans of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson have jumped to his side, acknowledging how he made his way into the DCU and emerged comfortably and on his own terms. They appreciate how he presented exactly what he wanted the audience to see and managed to come out with just as much grandeur.

He definitely had the most gracious exit! Was able to take the “L” says a lot about him, although I think ego messed him up in the end. @Grace Randolph

Eh, The Rock did a lot of damage themselves by refusing to allow Black Adam and Shazam to cross paths in the DCEU in any way.

As for your question, it’s a fair point. I don’t know if any big-name actors or directors want to be in the DCU given how unstable it looks

They try so hard to make it his problem and it’s just sad and pathetic. This is just a case of people who have turned DC into a piece of meat and just another way to build their brand and can’t do that anymore because there is a gatekeeper now.

However, his post was not that popular. He managed to produce a dynamic hero who shone in a film that was otherwise rather disappointing. Audiences considered how great his acting was in the film. Nonetheless, there were factors that made fans turn against him. It didn’t stop him from putting out what he thought was his masterpiece.
