We’re excited to announce that in our third year, Best Buy customers can join our mission to help teenagers build a brighter future through technology.
We accomplish this primarily through support of the Best Buy Teen Tech CenterĀ® program, an initiative of the Best Buy Foundation. The program provides tools, training and mentoring to help young people discover their passions and pursue career and educational goals.
Beginning March 1, customers who shop at Best Buy stores, online, or through the app can add a donation to the Best Buy Foundation in support of Teen Tech Centers. Funds raised will help meet the goal of building 100 sites by 2025. More than 50 Teen Tech Centers are already operational across the United States.
Teen Tech Centers are housed and operated by local non-profit organizations. The centers provide teens with a safe space to create, learn and explore using the latest cutting-edge technology with the support of peers and adult mentors. At each center, members build skills for their future careers through hands-on activities in photography, augmented and virtual reality, 3D design, and more.
Teen Tech Center Milestones
The past year has been filled with pivotal moments for the Teen Tech Center program, and we couldn’t do it without the continued generosity of Best Buy employees, customers, and community partners. We’re proud of the work we’ve done, but we’re not done yet.
Join us as we take a look at some of the key milestones over the past year:
Program celebrates 10 years
The Best Buy Foundation opened the first Teen Tech Center in 2013 in partnership with the Minneapolis Central Branch of the Hennepin County Library. Since then, countless dreams have come true within the walls of Best Buy Teen Tech Centers across the country.
50th location opened in Indiana
The 50th Best Buy Teen Tech Center, sponsored by the Damien and Katy Harmon Foundation, opened in August. It marked the halfway point of the foundation’s goal of establishing 100 locations by 2025.
Best Buy Teen Tech Center Teens in National Ad Campaign
In May, Best Buy Teen Tech Center teens were featured in a new national advertising campaign that focused on the mentor/mentee relationship and how Teen Tech Centers are helping them achieve their dreams.
3 states welcome first Teen Tech Centers
The first Teen Tech Center locations opened in Kentucky, Oklahoma and North Carolina. It takes many partners to help teens build a brighter future through technology, and Best Buy is grateful for their support.
