Intercontinental Champion Gunther is still looking for a worthy opponent for WrestleMania 39. This week he spotted Adam Pearce on SmackDown.
The 35-year-old is the current Intercontinental Champion and dominates the blue mark. He has successfully defended his title against numerous top names including Ricochet, Sheamus and Rey Mysterio among others.
In the latest episode of The Blue Brand, The Ring General vowed to find a worthy opponent to defend his title at WrestleMania and brought it to the attention of Adam Pearce during a backstage promo.
Taking to Twitter, Pearce responded to The Ring General’s comments by sharing an unrecognizable photo of himself. The authority figure recalled the days when the two men worked together on the independent circuit a few years ago.
Pearce thanked Washington for the welcome on SmackDown and thanked the Intercontinental Champion.
“Thank you Washington DC! #SmackDown… and thanks for the kind words Gunther!” wrote Pearce.

On SmackDown, The Ring General was summoned by Drew McIntyre, who wanted a shot at the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 37. This led to Sheamus interrupting his good friend by accusing him of “sneaky”.
LA Knight, Karrion Kross, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods also made their way to the ring, resulting in a massive brawl between everyone. Whether this results in WWE booking a classic Intercontinental Title Ladder Match for WrestleMania 39 remains to be seen.
Santos Escobar wants to face Gunther for the WWE Intercontinental Championship
Santos Escobar has expressed interest in facing Gunther and challenging him for the Intercontinental Championship.
In a recent interview with WWE Germany, the Legado Del Fantasma member stated that he wants the IC title from Imperium.
“The only thing I want her to do is [Imperium] have is the Intercontinental Championship. If we go there, that’s what I want. I don’t know if I have all the resources in the world. I’ve been doing this forever. I know every single style there is. I don’t know about Gunther, but we’ll find out,” said the Legado Del Fantasma member.
Unfortunately, on the final episode of SmackDown, Escobar suffered a huge loss at the hands of Dominik Mysterio. The former NXT star wanted revenge for the insult he dished out to Dominik Rey Mysterio on last week’s episode of The Blue Brand. However, he failed in his attempt thanks to a timeout by Rhea Ripley.
