This has been a big week for Apple Intellectual Property News when it comes to brands. Apple received 9 Registered Trademark (RTM) Certificates for the processor brands “M1” and “A15 Bionic”, in addition to others related to “Apple AirTag”, “XCode Cloud” and more. Apple has also filed design marks in the US and Hong Kong related to “Works with Apple Home”, “WeatherKit” and more.
Apple M1
Apple has received a Registered Trademark (RTM) Certificate for “Apple M1”, which was filed under International Class 009 includes: “Computers; computer hardware, namely, integrated circuits and computer chips.”

Apple has received two Registered Trademark Certificates (RTM) for the image (graphic) version of Apple AirTag. The first RTM Certificate #6,906,359 as noted below was filed under International Class 018 Coverage: leather tote bags, leather straps, leather key fobs and luggage tags.”

In addition, Apple has been granted three Registered Trademark Certificates (RTM) for its non-figurative (non-graphic) trademark “Apple AirTag”.

Apple’s second non-figurative “Apple AirTags” Registered trademark No. 6,905,667 was filed under International Class 018 Reference: “Leather tote bags, key cases, leather straps, leather key cases, luggage tags.”
Apple’s non-figurative “Apple AirTags” Registered Trademark No. 6,905,646 was submitted under International Class 014 Cover: “keychain, keychain.”

Apple has been granted a Registered Trademark (RTM) certificate for “Memory Mixes”. Apple’s Registered Trademark Certificate was #6,904,960 registered their trademark under International Class 009 Subject: “downloadable computer software for viewing and pairing photos and videos with music; downloadable software for creating digital photo and video albums paired with music.”

Finally, the US Patent and Trademark Office issued Apple Registered Trademark (RTM) Certificate #6,899,157, which was filed under International Class 042 includes: “computer software design and development; computer software consultancy; cloud computing featuring software for use in designing, developing, testing, reviewing, sharing and distributing other software applications; providing online non-downloadable computer software for use in developing, testing, reviewing, publishing and distributing other software applications; providing online non-downloadable application development software; providing information online about computer software; technical support services, namely, diagnosing and troubleshooting computer software problems.”

Apple has registered its trademark under two international classes. Coincidentally, we covered two recent Apple patent applications for doorbell video cameras (01 and 02).
The second class is 011 includes: “Apparatus for lighting, heating, refrigerating, air conditioning, humidifying, ventilating, cooking, refrigerating, washing, drying, plumbing, water supply and sanitary purposes; light bulbs, lighting fixtures and lamps; heaters, air conditioners and electric fans; Sinks and fittings for sinks.”
Apple has filed this trademark with the Hong Kong Patent and Trademark Office under number 306111954 under the same international classes.
Apple has also filed two figurative mark icons in Hong Kong representing icons for WeatherKit and the Apple Weather app, as shown below.

For the WeatherKit icon Apple registered its trademark under 009 and includes: “Computer software; application development software; computer software for use as an application programming interface (API) for building software applications; software for processing, transmission and display of text, data, images, audio and audiovisual content and other multimedia content; computer software for displaying weather information; Computer software development tools.
For weather app icon Apple registered its trademark under 009 and includes: “Computer software; software for processing, transmission and display of text, data, images, audio, audio-visual content and other multimedia content; Computer software for displaying weather information.”
For the record, choosing the right trademark classes is important because trademark registration only protects Apple’s trademark(s) in the classes originally filed in their application. This is important in every branding challenge around the world.
