For example, maybe you need to know about meeting the engineering team, but do you also need to watch the latest reality TV memes? Probably not.

Luckily, there are ways to boost and mute specific channels in Slack so you don’t get bogged down in unnecessary stuff notifications. You can do this on both your desktop and mobile device.
Manage Slack channel and chat notifications from desktop
1. Open and sign in to Slack using a web browser or the Slack app.
2. Click into a channel or chat that you want to amplify or mute.
3. Click either the channel name or member names at the top of the window.
4. At the top of the new window, click the middle drop-down menu with the bell icon. When you first see this menu, it might read Get notifications for @ messages or Receive notifications for all messages depending on your settings.
5. From there, you can select one of four notification options:
- All messages: Notifies you of every new message.
- @ Mentions: Notifies you for @mentions, @channel, and @here only.
- Out of: You will not receive any notifications.
- Mute: You won’t get notifications, but you’ll see the red badge icon when you’re mentioned in the channel. This channel will also be moved to the bottom of your channel list.
6. When you have made your choice, click X in the popup to close the window and you’re done.
You can also see which channels or chats you’ve muted or turned off notifications for. Here’s how.
1. Open and sign in to Slack using a web browser or the Slack app.
2. Click either your profile in the top right corner or your organization name in the top right corner.
3. click settings.
4. In the new window, scroll all the way down to see all the channels you’ve customized
5. If you want to receive notifications again for any of these channels or chats, click X next to the channel or chat to reset it to its default settings.

If you use Slack on your mobile device, learn how to manage channel and chat notifications from your device.
1. Open the Slack app on your iPhone or Android device.
2. Tap a channel or chat.
3. Tap the channel or chat name at the top of the screen.
4. Beat notifications and you can choose Every new message, @mentions only or nothing.

You can also see which channels and chats you’ve muted or turned off notifications on mobile. Here’s how.
1. Open the Slack app on your iPhone or Android device.
2. Tap the You option at the bottom of your screen.
3. Beat notifications.
4. Beat Channel specific notifications.
From here you can adjust the custom settings by tapping on the channel or chat name.
Manage Slack notifications on mobile devices
You can also manage which notifications reach your mobile device without interfering with your desktop notifications. Here’s how.
1. Open the Slack app on your iPhone or Android device.
2. Tap the You option at the bottom of your screen.
3. Beat notifications.
4. At the top of the screen below Notify me on mobile about…Select All new news, Direct messages, mentions and keywords or nothing.
You can also choose when you want to receive notifications on your mobile device by following the first three steps above and tapping Notify me on mobile. You can choose whether you want to receive notifications Always, even when I’m active, As soon as I’m inactive or After being idle on the desktop.
