Top downloads on PlayStation for September

The top PlayStation (PS) 5, PS4 and PS Virtual Reality (VR) downloads for the month of September in the US (US)/Canada region were recently featured on the PlayStation Blog. Here’s a look at the top 10 most downloaded games on these platforms for September 2022.

PLAYSTATION5

On the PS5, NBA 2K23 led the way, with the latest release in 2K’s long-running line of basketball simulation games taking the top spot in the downloads list, while the latest entry in another long-running sports series, EA Sports’ football simulation title, featured FIFA 23 finished second.

A colleague of EA Sports, Madden NFL 23 finished in fourth place behind third-place finisher The Last of Us Part 1, a remake of the award-winning action-adventure game The Last of Us that was first released in 2013.

Cyberpunk 2077 took fifth place in the chart with its open-world action RPG set in Night City, a megalopolis obsessed with power, glamor and body modification, while open-world title Grand Theft Auto V took sixth place, showing that it continues to be popular on the PS5, nine years after its initial release on the PS3.

Disney Dreamlight Valley, a life simulation adventure game starring various Disney characters, ranked seventh in the chart, followed by the eighth-placed action-adventure game Saints Row, the fifth installment and a reboot of the series of the same name, while dealing with tactical first-person Perspective Action Shooter Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege was ninth and fighting game JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle was tenth.

PLAYSTATION 4

The PS4 September Download List saw a similar story, with NBA 2K23 and FIFA 23 taking first and second place on the chart, respectively, while Madden NFL 23 completed the top three.

Due to Grand Theft Auto V’s continued popularity on PS4, it took fourth place on the list, followed by open-world sandbox game Minecraft in fifth place.

The sixth most downloaded title on PS4 in the last month was Red Dead Redemption 2, an open-world action-adventure set in a fictionalized version of America in 1899 and described as “an epic tale of honor and loyalty at the dawn of modernity “ is described.

In addition to placing on the PS5 charts, Cyberpunk 2077 also took seventh place on PS4, while Dead Island: Definitive Edition, a remaster of the 2011 action RPG set in the midst of a zombie outbreak on a tropical island, was eighth.

Mixed martial arts fighting game EA Sports UFC 4 was ninth on the list, while survival horror title The Forest was last in the top 10.

PLAYSTATIONVR

On the PS VR platform, the most downloaded game of September was Beat Saber, a rhythm game in which players use virtual sabers to cut blocks representing musical beats.

Second place went to Job Simulator, a game set in the year 2050, in a world where robots have replaced all human jobs and where “players can relive the glory days of work by learning the ins and outs of a gourmet chef.” simulate an office worker, a supermarket clerk and more”.

Superhot VR, a first-person shooter where time moves only when the player moves, was third, while VR platformer Astro Bot Rescue Mission was fourth, followed by boxing title Creed: Rise to Glory in fifth place.

Sixth on the list was adventure game Rick and Morty: Virtual Rick-ality, and seventh went to NFL ProERA ’22, a VR simulation game that lets players experience what it’s like to be the quarterback of their favorite NFL team.

The story-driven, physics-based medieval fighting game Swordsman VR took eighth place, ahead of ninth place Sniper Elite VR, a stealth-action first-person shooter set during World War II and the arcade-style first-person shooter, Transformers Beyond Reality rounded out the top 10.

FREE TO PLAY (PS5 & PS4)

The top 10 free-to-play titles on PS5 and PS4 were also unveiled, with everyone’s favorite battle royale title Fortnite taking the top spot.

Second place went to Fall Guys, a game in which players compete with hordes of other contestants online through rounds of obstacles and challenges until a single winner remains, while crossover fighting game MultiVersus was also in the top three.

Battle royale titles continue to dominate the list, with Rumbleverse, a brawler battle royale game that focuses on hand-to-hand combat, taking fourth place, followed by first-person shooter battle royale game Call of Duty: Warzone in fifth place and battle royale hero shooter title Apex Legenden in sixth place.

The free-to-play list continues with online action role-playing game Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis at number seven and vehicular soccer game Rocket League at number eight.

First-person shooter title Destiny 2 ranks ninth on the list, followed by soccer simulation title eFootball 2023 in tenth place.
