Ireland defeated Scotland in their second game of Group B after a brilliant fifth-century wicket stand between Curtis Campher and George Dockrell.
Scotland, who batted first, went 176/5 in 20 overs as Michael Jones led the innings with a crucial 86-run innings. The sum seemed justifiable at halftime.
Scotland’s prospects brightened as Ireland were reduced to 61/4 in the 10th over of the chase. That’s when Campher and Dockrell joined hands in the middle, trying to steady the chase.
Campher hit a fascinating 72 runs from 32 deliveries to lead his team home, while Dockrell played an able second fiddle and hit 39 from 27 deliveries. The two produced a partnership of 119 runs – the highest for Ireland in T20 World Championships.
Group B lives and opened up further with Ireland’s win over Scotland. Victory would also give the West Indies some breathing room as they face Zimbabwe in an important competition.
