Two senior female bureaucrats caused an uproar in the state bureaucracy on Sunday, publicly bickering on social media. An IPS officer took to social media to accuse an IAS officer of multiple misconduct. She also released the IAS officer’s personal pictures, which she allegedly shared with some male officers.
In two lengthy posts, Karnataka State Handicrafts Development Corporation chief executive D. Roopa, an IPS official, made personal remarks against Rohini Sindhuri, Commissioner of the Muzrai Department, accusing her of corruption, among other things. However, Ms Sindhuri called the allegations baseless, which were based on personal hatred. She said Ms Roopa, who holds a position of responsibility, behaves as if she has lost her mental balance.
Both accused the other of violating the code of conduct of the public service and of having brought the relevant violations to the attention of the responsible authorities.
It’s not the first time the two have engaged in a mud fight, by the way, as Ms Roopa had attacked Ms Sindhuri in the past. The two officials have also been the subject of controversy individually in their official functions in recent years.
Ms Roopa’s posts, in which she attached personal photos of Ms Sindhuri, appear to have been taken from a photo of Ms Sindhuri meeting KR Nagar MLA Sa. Ra. Mahesh, who was reportedly trying to reconcile with him, went viral. Incidentally, Ms. Sindhuri, as Vice Commissioner of Mysuru, had raised allegations of land grabbing against the legislature, who have filed a lawsuit against the official for defamation. However, many social media users questioned the posting of personal photos on social media and also made accusations instead of reporting it to the relevant authority.
Questioning Ms. Sindhuri’s meeting with Mr. Mahesh, the IPS officer asked why there was a compromise meeting between the two when the officer was making decisions in an official capacity. She accused Ms. Sindhuri of misconduct during her posts in Mandya, Hassan and Mysuru districts and her previous alleged quarrels with her colleagues.
In response, Ms Sidhuri accused Ms Roopa of running a false and personal smear campaign against her. She said: “The photos are screenshots and were selected from social media posts/WhatsApp statuses and used to scandalize me.” She has done it in every place she has worked. She has always longed for media attention. I will take legal and other action with the appropriate authorities for their actions, which amount to misconduct and offenses under various sections of the IPC.”
Meanwhile, Chief Minister’s Office sources said Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai is likely to intervene and urge the two officials not to make public comments.
