Viral Pic Shows Swiss Version Of Gujarati Snack Dabeli

Twitter user Kunal Sawardekar shared the image of “Dabeli fondue” on Friday.

Weird food pairings have become the latest trend on the internet as people love to experiment and combine different dishes to create new ones. While some of these experiments are appreciated online, others are usually labeled ridiculous. Now the latest addition to this trend is a Swiss version of a Gujarati snack called Dabeli.

On Twitter, a user named Kunal Sawardekar shared an image of “Dabeli Fondue” on Friday. As the name suggests, the fusion dish featured a potato and curry mix instead of melted cheese. The dish was served with pieces of crispbread.

In the caption, Mr Sawardekar wrote: “Switzerland: neutrality is a core element of our foreign policy – we have not been at war with any other country since 1815. India: let us test your commitment to this principle.”

Dabeli in Gujarati means “pressed”. It’s basically a desi sandwich made by mixing boiled potatoes, special Dabeli masala and stuff it into a bun or pav. It’s generally served with tamarind chutney, roasted peanuts, and pomegranate.

Mr Sawardekar’s tweet soon garnered over 1,800 likes. Netizens flooded the comments section with all sorts of reactions. While some were simply disgusted with the idea of ”Dabeli fondue,” others said that they wouldn’t mind trying the fusion dish.

“And here I thought dumplings baked in a pizza were the worst culinary experiment,” wrote one user. “I have to admit: I think that would be fun Dabeli fondue,” added another.

A third said: “Fondue? I’m totally tuned into food culture fusion but you have to stop somewhere,” while a fourth jokingly commented, “See you and raise you a pav bhaji fondue.”

Meanwhile, this isn’t the first time a bizarre food combination has gone viral on the internet. Earlier, a video showing a man serving butter chicken ice cream with green chutney left social media users in disgust.

The clip was shared by Instagram food blogger Foodvoodindia. The post’s caption informed that the Butter Chicken will be served at Aloft Aerocity in New Delhi.
