Indian batsman Robin Uthappa decided to call it a day on Wednesday when the 36-year-old cricketer announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on Twitter on Wednesday (September 14, 2022).
“It has been my greatest honor to represent my country and my state of Karnataka. However, all good things must come to an end and it is with a grateful heart that I have decided to retire from all forms of Indian cricket,” read an excerpt of his lengthy tweet.

Uthappa was part of the squad for Team India that won the inaugural World T20 Cup in South Africa in 2007. He also started his international career with a bang when he scored a record 86 in ODIs against England on 15 April 2006.
Uthappa has played for several IPL franchises since the inaugural 2008 season, beginning with Mumbai Indians. He joined Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2009 before joining the now-defunct Pune Warriors in 2011. The Karnataka batsman, Ranji debut in 2022, joined Kolkata Knight Riders in 2014 and won the IPL that season. He also hit 660 runs that season with a batting average of 138.
At the end of his career, the cricketer joined Rajasthan Royals in 2020 before joining Chennai Super Kings in 2021. CSK bought back the dough at the mega auction earlier this year at its base price of Rs 2 crore. Overall, he had 4952 runs (ranked ninth all-time top scorer) in the T20 franchise league with the highest scoring of 88. He also scored 27 fifties.
For India he had 59 caps (46 ODIs) and scored 1042 runs (211 in T20Is) but never scored a century at the top level. However, Uthappa was never featured in Test cricket.
“It has been 20 years since I started playing professional cricket and it has been the greatest honor to represent my country and my state of Karnataka – a wonderful journey full of ups and downs; one that has been fulfilling, rewarding, enjoyable and has allowed me to grow as a person,” the player continued.
“However, all good things must come to an end and it is with a grateful heart that I have decided to retire from all forms of Indian cricket. While I will be spending plenty of time with my young family, I look forward to chatting about a new phase in my life,” he continued.
