WUSF Public Media is now accepting applications for news internships for both spring and summer 2023.
The semester positions include individual internships with a focus on radio, digital news and social media platforms.
All WUSF News interns are paid.
Interns must be currently enrolled at a university at the time of their employment at WUSF News. They can also be accepted and prepare for entry into graduate school.
If selected, you will work closely with our team of experienced editors and reporters who will learn how to report, write and produce stories for radio and online platforms. WUSF News is a place where students are treated like professional journalists from the start, assigned stories that matter to millions of Tampa Bay residents.
You’ll also learn how public service media serve their audiences differently than commercial news outlets.
SPRING 2023 (three to four interns will be selected)
WUSF Rush Family Radio News Internship – (Two days a week) In this internship, a student will learn how to research, write, produce and report for WUSF Radio and WUSFNews.org. In addition to daily news assignments, the Radio News intern will produce longer, in-depth stories. Students of ANY university are welcome to apply for this job. This internship is funded by the WUSF Rush Family Fund.
WUSF Stephen Noble Digital News Internship – (One to two days per week including Fridays) The WUSF Digital News Intern will work closely with the WUSF Digital Editor, Internship Coordinator and other reporters/interns. Responsibilities include producing visuals and audio for WUSF social media sites, as well as reporting on radio and digital stories that engage web audiences. The intern will also live tweet The Florida Roundup, a weekly call-in show that airs on public media stations across Florida. The intern will learn what it takes to successfully leverage our content across our social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) and help strategize to expand our reach in the social media universe. WUSF Rush Family / USF Zimmerman Radio News Internship – (One day per week) The WUSF/USF Zimmerman Radio News Intern researches assignments, conducts interviews, and writes, produces, and reports stories for WUSF Radio and WUSFNews.org. ONLY students from the USF Zimmerman School of Advertising and Mass Communications are eligible for these positions. This internship is also funded by the WUSF Rush Family Fund.
SUMMER 2023 (two interns wanted)
WUSF Rush Family Radio News Internship – (Five days a week) In this internship, a student will learn how to research, write, produce and report for WUSF Radio and WUSFNews.org. All internships at WUSF News are $15/hour and require students to work a full eight-hour shift. Half-day shifts are not possible. Student loans are also available for interns.
The spring internships run from the beginning of January – the beginning of May 2023; the summer internships run from mid-May to early August 2023.
The orientation takes place at the beginning of the semester. Students work and receive editing and instruction directly from an editor throughout the course.
